Tucson Book Fest

One of the reasons that I love my job so much is that I agree wholeheartedly with the mission of the National Park Service. I love History, and love working to preserve it for future generations. I love educating the public about cultural and natural resources, and I love being able to meet people from all walks of life from all over the world. Well, I was able to do that recently at the Tucson Festival of Books. I am even including a picture of myself so that you can finally see me in all my beautiful uniformed glory, complete with badge and Stetson hat. I am the volunteer coordinator for my park (as well as several other things) and the beautiful woman you see with me is Libby. She is an amazing volunteer who was formerly a first and second grade teacher. I do not have all of the pictures from the event yet, but this day my big sister came to spend the day with me in our booth. When those images come in I will post more so that you can see just how much fun we have together.

Improved Impromptu Intelligence

Lately my husband has been completely sarcastic. Now, I should mention that in the past he has exhibited a magnificent sense of humor. It was physical and slapstick humor like that of Chaplin, Stooges, and Carey. He would make a face and talk funny, and I was the queen of sarcasm. Well, after several years of marriage he has decided that the time has come to reveal his new improved impromptu intelligent response quota or Triple I.Q. as I call it, and has been leaving me little comments. Not to forget his original preferred method he sometimes combines the two to rave reviews. As proof I provide the following with background when necessary:

Me-"Honey, don't forget to take the red plastic off the bologna."
Him-"I'm not stupid! I know you don't eat it!"

(Flash back in time 15 years to our first married year together)

Him-"that bologna tasted terrible, the outside was really hard and like plastic or something"
Me-quietly peeling mine off, and understanding that he ate the same meals at home over and over again and has had a very narrow diet and limited cultural exposure.

(Flash Forward to the day after he made his sandwich)

Me-"Will you make the girls a sandwich?"
Him-"What if I forget to take off the plastic"
Me-"It wouldn't be the first time."

(Flash Forward 5 Minutes)

Him-"Here you go sweetheart." as he hands me a sandwich with the plastic on, laughs, and runs away laughing like a five year old.
Me-peel the plastic off, eat it, and admire his bravery and improved impromptu intelligence

Then yesterday we were driving:

Me-"You better watch it MR!" said in jest after a first attempt at adequate improved impromptu intelligence made by the husband.
Him-"What are you going to do, replace me?"
Me-"You never know!"
Him-"You would never do that! It would take you way to long to train my replacement!"

He is just an amateur, but he is starting to show some real sarcastic aptitude.
