A day exploring

I told myself I would not post again without first taking pictures, but life doesn't always wait for the camera, and sometimes or more often than that, I forget to take the camera with me. We went to Florence, AZ. The mainstreet is just as it is shown in the movie Murphys Romance with Sally Field. It was interesting to walk up and down the streets and visit the many historic and delapidated old homes and hotels. We had lunch in a former saloon slash brothel built in the mid 1800's. The player piano is still there and still works. The building had been abandoned until two years ago when the current owners began and finished renovations and re-opened as a little general store/cafe. It is charming, and hanging from all of the walls are handmade quilts of different varieties and old artworks and prints that display the thoroughly eclectic style of the owners who are from Arkansas and Boston Ma. Then we walked up and down the small street. Florence wants to remain a historic town and as such they do not allow larger chains to reside in their city. My only wish is that they would restore and upkeep the buildings there a little better. Their capital building for example is very nice looking, but it is in serious need of maintenance. We stopped and got an ice cream and then walked back to the car and drove home full of food and frontier history.
