slumber party!
While my oldest is off enjoying her very first slumber party with 8 girls, and three moms in attendance, the two younger ones and I have had our own slumber party. I knew that the middle child would be feeling a little left out so I planned ahead and prepared a fun night for her and I. I started by getting popcorn tubs from Target, as well as popcorn, brownie bites, and beverage. Then I picked a great movie, and set up a nail station with her favorite color nail polish, and then concluded with Monopoly, and a 300 piece puzzle. We had so much fun talking and laughing. It was wonderful particularly since this afternoon was no fun for me at all. Why was it not fun you ask? I will give one clue. I was window shopping online a little earlier and came across a sign that read "Friends Welcome...Family by appointment." I was seriously contemplating buying that sign, buying three of them for that matter, and puting it near my phone, door, and photo albums. Changing subject now. One of the moms from the slumber party called to let me know that after laying in the grass in the back yard the oldest broke out in a rash. Well, with my husbands family tendency toward extreme allergies I ran over to check on her and took some Benedryl. She had chigger bites all over her arms and feet where she didn't have clothing on. She wanted to stay so with a promise to watch her for the next couple hours I let her continue her fun filled night. It was funny to see her sitting there on the floor with her sleeping bag with all of those girls. She has been so excited about this opportunity. Much like I was when I was little and went on my first large slumber party. The experience was made even more ironic when I think about my night in a sleeping bag itching like crazy because I had swimmers itch. We had gone swimming in a lake and I didn't know anything about snails or the nasty stuff. I was miserable the whole night, and only was able to get relief when I would poor freezing cold tap water over my legs. I hope the Benedryl helps to relieve her suffering. She has the same Mom I had as well. You know the mom who has the funny smelling ointment that claims it works, and then smears it all over you until your mom shows up. Even though you have no relief from the discomfort she keeps insisting that it works. So now you itch, smell funny, feel gross, and are wondering what in nature could be so obnoxious when you can't even see it! At least I got a hug and a thank you for bringing the Benedryl, and I am happy that she is making memories that she will never forget, and glad that she is doing it in an environment where she is safe. I am also glad that I got a chance to talk with her this week about all of the things she wants for her future, and with the middle child tonight. I can't believe how funny, intelligent, and interesting kids are. All in all a successful night.
