I loved having a March birthday for a number of reasons growing up. For one, all of my brothers and sisters birthdays, and I have several of them, were in other months. So, it was one time a year that was special just to me. I love March because I love rain and snow, and in most places you encounter them in this month. I also love March because it was the beginning of spring and the weather begins to change as well as the scenery. Finally, I really did believe growing up that I was the one responsible for bringing the easter celebration. I always new that once my birthday was over Easter was just around the corner. Hence, to a five year old mind Easter could not come if it weren't for my birthday. I also love being a pisces, with the exception of some flakiness. I love being imaginative, I love my musical ability (I play the cello), I love my ability to be so consumed by what I am reading that the world around me fades into muted shades and all noise can be blocked out. My favorite thing about my birthday when I was younger was always the sound of my father telling the story of my birth. He wasn't present for anyone elses birth because of work or because of Old hospital policies. He would tell me about how painful it was for my mother. He would talk about that night and say it was raining "cats and dogs", which I always thought explained my love of animals. He would talk about the moment I was born and the fact that I was about to cry until he said "it is o.k. squirt, we are here!" Then how I turned my head in his direction and didn't cry. He would add that "you knew who your daddy was", and I believe he was right. He has been gone for some time now, but I still love hearing this story in my memory every birthday. Yesterday was no exception. My bishop called to wish me a happy birthday and then followed with the comment that it must have been raining cats and dogs when I was born (I wont explain why this minute), and I thought thanks dad for the message. Ryan made me a full American Breakfast, and then I got my nails and hair done. We finished the day just as I asked. We put the kids in bed, popped some popcorn (cookies for him because he has a hatred of popcorn unrivaled in the free world), and lay in bed watching old movies. We watched Roman Holiday and Philadelphia Story. It was a perfect night as far as I am concerned. This morning we are going for a hike in the mountains, or rather we were going to before he got an emergency call for work. So now we are going to do that next weekend I guess. All in all it was a great birthday.
